Happy Father's Day

Marc and I have been together for 11 years next month and even before Paige was a thought in our minds, I knew he'd be a good father.

He's patient with her, he can watch her for hours doing the simplest things, he explains how everything works, he encourages her. He's everything you'd want a father to be.

Cherished from the moment she arrived...actually sooner.

Having a mini-me moment :)

And a Mini-Marc moment

Goofballs stick together :)

Standing in the ocean in April because that's what she wanted to do.

Peanut, you're a very lucky girl to have this man as your Dada. Happy Father's Day, Marc.

Mother's Day

As you're most likely aware (thanks Hallmark), Mother's Day is next Sunday. I'm on the fence about this "holiday".

Yes, I'm a mom (and a relatively new one, at that). 2 years ago, even though I was less then 3 weeks away from giving birth, I refused to accept/acknowledge Mother's Day for myself. In my mind, I wasn't a mom....yet. Last year? I was more into the holiday, but still not 100% on board for it.

I am not my husband's mother so the belief that he should buy me something (from him), is weird. I appreciate him buying me a gift "from" Paige, and I've done that for Marc the past 2 years and will continue to do so, but the idea of flowers, cards, and big/expensive gifts? No thank you.

I feel the same way about anniversaries. My in-laws have bought us a card and gift for our wedding anniversaries and they expect the same from their kids. My husband doesn't like this idea because his thought is that it's not his day, it's theirs. I feel the same way. It's weird for me to accept an anniversary gift from someone other than my husband. And, by the same token, it's weird for me to accept a Mother's Day gift from someone other than my child.

Am I alone in these feelings or do you expect your husband to get you a gift because you gave birth to his child(ren)?

Wordlessish Wednesday| 6.

My brother decided that Paige needed an Easter basket. Filled with peeps, Reeses Eggs, jelly beans, Easter gummy shapes and 6 Nerf guns.

Yes. 6.

My daughter is becoming Rambo. Or it'll be a each-wo/man-for-themselves fight.

Y3W| Happy Easter Everybunny!

And so begins another busy Holiday weekend for us. I got ambitious this morning and decided to put Paige's Easter basket together. Less stress for me ;)

In case you're wondering what's in there:
A butterfly pillow with markers to color it (I'll share our trip to The Butterfly Place with you soon!)
A bath mitt from Avon's Tiny Tilla
Foam Sesame Street book from Target's $1 bins
Plastic/Bath Time book, also from Target's $1 bins
Abby Cadabby note pad....from Target's $1 bins
Shampoo and Bubble Bath from Avon
2 sets of stickers - Sesame Street and Butterflies
An egg of M&Ms
The orange Reeses Pieces in the shape of a carrot

We're also going to do a small Easter egg hunt - M&Ms, Starburst jelly beans (YUM), and change for her new piggy bank from Sweet Stella's. Both sets of her grandparents and her aunt (M's sister) have also gotten her baskets so this little girl will be super spoiled, as usual :) And to think...her birthday's in LESS than 2 months. Scary thoughts there ;)

Hope you all have a Happy Easter, if you celebrate. Happy Passover. And if you don't celebrate, have a great weekend!!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you & yours!

I hope Santa was EXTRA good to you all :) Right now, I'm sitting in my darkened living room with a cup of hot cocoa while my husband and kid are still sleeping. There's definitely something about the lights on the tree with presents underneath it...my heart is happy.

I'll be posting regularly again this week and I'm even guest blogging over at Baby Shmizz!

How (a mall) Santa Broke My Christmas Spirit

Paige and I had some time to kill after her doctor's appointment, so I decided we should head to the mall. I enjoy the mall at Christmas - the decorations, the kiosks and the bustle of shoppers. Paige is into people-watching, she'd enjoy it too!

We saw Santa at Center Court. Paige was waving at him and saying "Santa!" so I figured, it doesn't hurt to visit (the sign even says we welcome visits but no camera/cell pictures). I tell the Elf that we're just visiting. Like most toddlers I see, she likes Santa from afar but doesn't enjoy him when he's so close. Santa tried a few times to get her onto his lap, but she kept reaching to me. At this point, Santa asked if we're doing pictures today. I said that we were just visiting for now. He asked again and made a comment about a "Hiding Mommy trick" (where they have Paige sit on my knee, crop me out so it looks like she's sitting on Santa). I once again (politely) declined. And one last time he asked - "You can't even afford $25.00?"

5 words. That's all it took to kill my Christmas spirit. I understand that mall Santas are in sales - they want to sell pictures. But if you're like me, you have bills and other things going on. I have enough money to pay the necessities but frivolous things, like a picture with Santa, is not on the budget this week. And $25.00 would buy her stocking stuffers, or another gift. A gift for my husband. The cost of gas to make a few extra trips to see family and friends this Christmas.

I, of course, made a  Facebook post.

The responses I got from my friends was overwhelming...and I thank all of you. They all said Santa was in the wrong, asking me to call to complain, and comments about how plenty of people are without a job - someone out there would be holly & jolly.

So, I called to complain. Let me tell you, for a company to answer the phone "Hello?" is not right. I was thrown off, thinking I had the wrong number. I don't have a company name or a representative name to share. She didn't take my info - she just said she'd speak to Santa. In honesty, I'm not sure that anything could have been done to make me happy. Thankfully, my sweet 18 month old doesn't understand and my mom has offered to pay for pictures with Santa (at a different mall).

Santa is a symbol of hope, cheer. He's used to make children behave, he's the Elf who makes the toys, the man who makes children's dreams come true. He holds promise of a bright, peaceful future. But to me? To me, he's the man who broke my Christmas spirit.

The Enchanted Village

Sorry for the late post guys - the past week has just been weird. I've felt like it was much later in the week then it actually was...(I thought that it was Friday every morning starting on Wednesday)!

Two weeks ago, we brought Paige to The Enchanted Village. For those of you not from New England, The Enchanted Village is animated Victorian scenes that have these bears that pop up in certain areas. It's adorable and something that I went to as a little kid. It's moved around a few times since I started going -

We are HERE!!! (Now in Jordan's Furniture....)
 Why are we waiting?
Here Daddy, you need your hat!

And now, some of the scenes from The Enchanted Village (can you spot the bears?)

I hope you are all excited for your holiday celebrations! I'll have to show you some of what we have going on here soon :)
