Giving it up

Paige will be 20 months old this weekend and she still gets a nighttime bottle. It's not the worst thing in the world, but I definitely want to get the bottle out of our lives. She's getting to the point where she's asking for "buba" in the middle of the day - as well as crying in the middle of the night asking for it.

I'm off this weekend so Hubbs and I have discussed getting rid of the bottle this weekend (might as well be sleep deprived with the opportunity to take a nap)! But an interesting thing was mentioned to me when I was dropping Paige off at daycare...she's been sleeping on a mat like the older kids for a few months now and her baby sitter mentioned how much better Paige sleeps on the mat instead of in the crib or Pack n Play.

It got me thinking - we've been having some sleep deprived nights. She'll wake up fussing and crying several times. Maybe if we put her into the toddler bed, her sleep will improve?

A friend mentioned that it might be too much at once while another friend said to get it all over and done with at once.

We'd have to discuss moving the toys out of Paige's bedroom so she doesn't get up to play in the middle of the night, but I'd rather Paige be miserable for a weekend rather then trying to do it separately.

So, moms (and dads), what do you think? How do you make the transition? Any (and all) advice is appreciated!

  1. My SIL took her 2yr old to the store and had her pick out 2 replacement "babas" two cups or sippy cups of her daughters choosing seemed to work well. The toddler bed idk about that makes me nervous (and I actually have a post coming up next week about it!)

  2. We aren't at this point yet, but I'm thinking that might be too much. I would try to ditch the bottle first, and then after a few weeks try the toddler bed if her sleep is still messed up. The way I think of it is this: she is too old for the bottle, but she is not too old for the crib yet, KWIM?
